ITERA-lite will be a member race of the Adventure Racing World Series (ARWS) Europe.

ITER – Latin for “journey”.. and the “A” stood for little more than the ADVENTURE (where on that journey the outcomes are uncertain)

ITERA-lite ADVENTURE RACE 2023

2-3 days of non-stop multisport adventure across the best of the Southern Uplands of Scotland. ITERA-lite is new for 2023, and is the little brother of the epic ITERA 5-day race.

ITERA-lite is designed to be a do-able stepping stone to expedition length events for new adventure racers, a training opportunity for established teams, and of course, a great race and adventure in its own right!

Expect around 300km of non-stop multisport action with stages comprising trekking, mountain-biking, kayaking, navigation and special stages – we aim to take you to some hidden gems.

We are anticipating the winning time to be around 48hours and all teams to be complete within c. 60 hours. With shortcuts available for the novice or slower teams we hope everyone will enjoy the drama and excitement to be found in in expedition adventure racing.

Good navigation is essential for the race, and you will be provided with detailed maps to follow. Attitude is everything, so be prepared for the unexpected. This is an adventure – bring some self-reliance!.

Entries will be accepted from teams of 4 people (competitive teams will need to have at least one female member) and Pairs. Every member of every team must have an appropriate level of experience or qualification in a kayak, and be comfortable with long journeys in F3/F4 type conditions and easy moving water in a river context. We reserve the right to conduct a basic skills test.

We are planning for the 4-5day version of ITERA to return in 2024 or 2025
